Upper Elementary

Independence

The goal between 3rd and 5th grade is for students to be much more independent in their learning process. Accompanied by their facilitators, children understand the true purpose of their education.

This way they are the ones who begin to learn, set goals, advance and work independently following their learning paths.  This motivates learners to study because it makes them a part of their educational process. When they understand the purpose of what they are learning, they do not see the study as something imposed but, on the contrary, as something exciting.

Having subject matter applied in their life makes a big difference. It is not learning mathematics for its own sake, for example. It is applying the concepts and skills in real-life projects that are fun and at the same time lead them to understand the impact that knowledge or skill can have in their lives.
